Samba Catering has always taken food labelling and allergen awareness very seriously, so we were very pleased to see the law change in 2021 to reinforce the need for strict labelling across the industry, in the form of “Natasha’s Law”.
‘Natasha’s Law’ came into force on 1st October 2021 requiring all food businesses to provide full ingredients labelling on food that has been pre-packed for direct sale.
The legislation was designed to better protect those with allergies and give them greater confidence in the food they buy and was named after teenager Natasha Ednan-Laperouse. Her parents campaigned for a change in the law following her death from an allergic reaction to a Pret a Manger baguette.
Also known as The UK Food Information Amendment, this law means that any food business selling food that is pre-packed for direct sale (PPDS) must provide full ingredients labelling on the packaging. This is not just about highlighting known allergens in food, but also those that could be lesser known to cause allergic reactions too.
Samba already had rigorous food labelling processes in place, but we have continued to challenge our ourselves, our processes, and our teams to make sure that every label is reliable, accurate and safe
We have a central database where information on our ingredients is stored and updated, and this is linked into our label team and printing system to avoid any errors. Checking and re-checking our systems is an ongoing process as it ensures we will aways accurately label the products you give to your customers
Everyone working at Samba has training on allergen legislation and are constantly reminded of the business’s responsibilities in food safety.
You can trust our labelling. You can trust Samba Catering.
